Latin American television does more than entertain; it also remembers. In Chile and Colombia, series and telenovelas have turned the screen into a space where recent history is debated: dictatorship, armed conflict, drug trafficking, and corruption.

In Television with Memory, historian Mónika Contreras Saiz brings together 30 interviews with screenwriters, directors, producers, actors, and researchers to reveal what happens behind the scenes: how narratives are constructed, the dilemmas creators face, and the ways in which fiction can become collective memory. This book invites readers to watch television with different eyes—as a public space where history is debated through images and where fiction opens alternative spaces to imagine and to speak about what hurts.
