Die vorliegende Dissertation untersucht die Auswirkungen restriktiver Zungenbänder und ihre mögliche Rolle als prädisponierenden Faktor zur Entstehung von CMD. Die Zunge spielt eine zentrale Rolle im Kausystem, beeinflusst durch Muskulatur und Verbindungen zu umliegenden Strukturen, vor allem zum Hyoid. Ebenso wie die CMD können restriktive Zungenbänder Auswirkungen auf orofaziale Funktion, Haltung, Malokklusionen, Bruxismus, Atmung und den Schlaf haben. Die Studie kommt zu dem Schluss, dass ein signifikanter Zusammenhang zwischen CMD und dem Grad der Ankyloglossie nachweisbar ist. 63,4% der Patienten mit CMD zeigen eine milde bis schwere Ankyloglossie im Sinne der Klassifikation nach Kotlow.
The present study investigates the effects of restrictive lingual frenula and their potential role as a predisposing factor in the development of TMD. The tongue plays a central role in the masticatory system, influenced by musculature and connections to surrounding structures, especially the hyoid. Similarly to TMD, restrictive lingual frenula can impact orofacial function, posture, mal-occlusions, bruxism, breathing, and sleep. The study concludes that a significant association between TMD and the degree of ankyloglossia is observable. 63.4% of TMD patients exhibit mild to severe ankyloglossia according to Kotlow's classification.
