Radka Kunderová, Principal Investigator of the "Theatre ReDefined" research project, interviews the German theatre dramaturg, director and playwright Thomas Martin about the post-1989 developments in the former East German theatre. The interview discusses the period of the 1990s and the change of the theatre's social role after 1989 and German reunification. A particular attention is paid to developments in the Volksbühne Berlin and the Deutsches Theater Berlin. Also, Frank Castorf's production "Räuber von Schiller" premiered at the Volksbühne Berlin in 1990 is discussed in more detail.
