dc.description.abstract
Umfeld mittels SOAP integrierbar.
System.

dc.description.abstract
A Web-based radiological case database implemented by the author and others
provided the framework for optimizing the individual knowledge management of
medical users using open source and standardized components. A major goal was
the automatic and seamless integration of teaching file server media into the
workflow with no need for further user interaction. This new method was
demonstrated by the seamless integration of teaching images in Microsoft Word
2000 documents and in Internet-based discussion groups in the context of the
integrative communication and teaching system presented here.
The implementation shows that the exclusive use of freely accessible software
components and libraries is suitable for setting up an Internet-based
communication platform for knowledge transfer. Because of the use of open
source standards and specifications, the presented approach can be easily
adapted to future interaction and interoperability demands. By publishing the
interoperable Web methods in a specified UDDI catalog, the exportable services
of the established software environment can be automatically found and, owing
to the WSDL description, integrated into any number of applications from other
developers and providers in the medical domain using SOAP. The
interoperability via Web services presented here ensures not only standardized
access and integration over established protocols such as HTTP and SMTP, but
also a high level of detail for retrieving and outputting objects from the
knowledge database of the teaching file server. The proposed interface at the
application level via Web Services, implemented with an adapter encapsulated
in the existing database access functions, enables the automated retrieval of
knowledge elements from a self-contained database system over the Internet.
The advantages of the database system in terms of retrieval functionality and
access security remain intact. Both in the clinical environment and in
teaching, the framework provides the necessary consistency in terms of the
human-computer interface (HCI) and the interfaces at the application level.
The system presented here features flexible and freely expandable
communications support and a seamless and news-based integration of knowledge
represented in diverse media into the individual workflow of users.
