The purpose of this study is to explore the background of the two ideological movements, namely liberalism and Islamism, which emerged in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century, and the influence of the Ottoman social, historical, cultural and structural elements on these ideologies without neglecting the individual adventures of the intellectuals from the point of view of macro-micro sociological aspects. Moreover, the study aims to analyze the relationship between these ideologies and the social, political and economic contexts and circumstances under which these thoughts were expressed. Finally, another goal of this study is to investigate and delineate micro- macro sociological factors through considering biographies of the intellectuals and their Lebenswelt. Given the fact that there has been very little research on the relationship between Ottoman social, institutional, economic and cultural structures and the thoughts addressed by Ottoman intellectuals, the task of this study is not an easy one.

Um die Entstehung des Islamismus und des Liberalismus im Osmanischen Reich im 20. Jahrhundert zu verstehen, ist es nötig, die sozialen, kulturellen, und ökonomischen Besonderheiten der osmanischen Geschichte aufzuzeigen. Im ersten Abschnitt habe ich dies gemacht. Danach sollten die Veränderungen, die nach der Tanzimat-Periode auftraten und die die osmanische Gesellschaft beeinflusst haben, geprüft werden. Um den für unsere Fragestellung relevanten Punkt bei der Bewertung der osmanischen Geschichte zu bestimmen, wurde ein historiographischer Überblick über das Osmanische Reich geschaffen. Im nächsten Abschnitt wurde das intellektuelle Milieu im Osmanischen Reich zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts betrachtet, damit der Kontext, in dem Liberale und Islamisten ihre Ideen entwickelten, verstanden werden konnte. Im vierten Abschnitt wurde die Feminismusdebatte im Osmanischen Reich diskutiert, weil diese Debatte die verschiedenen Aspekte der Ideologien besonders veranschaulicht. Anschließend wurde der Versuch unternommen, den persönlichen Habitus und das kulturelle Kapital der Islamisten sowie deren Ideen zu erörtern. Im Hinblick auf die Liberalen wurde die gleiche Methode angewandt. Um darüberhinaus verstehen zu können, was Liberalismus im Osmanischen Reich bedeutete und um die mikro- und makrosoziologischen Faktoren, die die Ideen der Liberalen beeinflust haben, zu bestimmen, wurden die ökonomischen und politischen Entwicklungen und Debatten im osmanischen Kontext überprüft. Die Ideologien, die am Ende des Osmanischen Reich entstanden, können nur dann verstanden werden, wenn die gesamte ökonomische, soziale und kulturelle Geschichte des Reichs betrachtet wird. Obwhol das Osmanische Reich bis zum 20. Jahrhundert viele soziale, ökonomische und kulturelle Veränderungen erlebt hat, kann der Einfluss des traditionalen Faktoren auf die Bedingungen des 20. Jahrhunderts gesehen werden.
