Organonickelpentafluoro-orthotellurates and Strong Methylation Agents

Abstract

The synthesis of the first organonickelpentafluoro-orthotellurates is described. The obtained complexes [Ni(Hacac)2(OTeF5)2] and cis-[Ni(iPrIm)2(OTeF5)2] are characterized by NMR spec-troscopy, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The binuclear complex [{Ni(Hacac)(H2O)(OTeF5)(µ-OTeF5)}2] is characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, ex-tending the group of metals of which bridging pentafluoro-orthotellurato ligands are known. The facile one-pot synthesis of the strong methylation agent [Me2Cl][Al(OTeF5)4] is described. This reaction requires a Brønsted super acid. The dimethylchloronium salt is used to methyl-ated several weakly basic molecules like PF3, P(CF3)3 and cyanuric fluoride under formation of strongly Lewis acidic cations. Subsequent decomposition reactions of the formed salts are investigated. This leads to new insides on the electron withdrawing properties of the pen-tafluoro-orthotellurato group. When incorporated in a hypervalent 3-center-4-electron bond the pentafluoro-orthotellurato ligand is more electron withdrawing than the fluorido ligand. The de-composition reactions also leads to new insides on the stability of the weakly coordinating anion. The aluminate anion [Al(OTeF5)4]− is not the perfect anion for these organic cations, but it is the best available on a large scale. The role of the dimethylchloronium cation in the classical Friedel-Crafts-Methylation is evalu-ated by quantum chemical calculations. In similarity to the Friedel-Crafts-Methylation, the salt [Me2Cl][Al(OTeF5)4] is used to methylate electron deficient aromatic molecules like 1,2,3,4-tetrafluorobenzene.

Es werden die Synthesen der ersten Organonickelpentafluoro-orthotellurato Verbindungen be-schrieben. Die dargestellten Komplexe [Ni(Hacac)2(OTeF5)2] und cis-[Ni(iPrIm)2(OTeF5)2] wer-den mittels NMR Spektroskopie, Massenspektrometrie und Einkristallröntgendiffraktometrie charakterisiert. Der zweikernige Komplex [{Ni(Hacac)(H2O)(OTeF5)(µ-OTeF5)}2] wird mittels Einkristallröntgendiffraktometrie charakterisiert. Dadurch wird die Gruppe der Metalle bei de-nen verbrückende Pentafluoro-orthotellurato Liganden bekannt sind um Nickel erweitert. Es wird eine einfache Eintopfreaktion zu Synthese des starken Methylierungsmittels [Me2Cl][Al(OTeF5)4] vorgestellt. Diese Synthese erfordert eine Brønsted Supersäure. Dieses Dimethylchloroniumsalzes wird verwendet um schwach basische Moleküle wie PF3, P(CF3)3 und Cyanurfluorid zu methylieren. Die dabei gebildeten Kationen sind starke Lewissäuren. Die Zersetzungsreaktionen dieser Salze wird untersucht, was zu neuen Erkenntnissen zu den Bin-dungseigenschaften der Pentrafluoro-orthotellurat Gruppe führt. Als Teil einer hypervalenten 3-Zentren-4-Elektronenbindung ist der Pentrafluoro-orthotellurato-Ligand stärker elektronen-ziehend als der Fluorido-Ligand. Die Zersetzungsreaktionen führen außerdem zu neuen Er-kenntnissen zur Stabilität des schwach koordinierenden Anions. Das Aluminat Anion [Al(OTeF5)4]− nicht das perfekte Anion für diese organischen Kationen ist, aber es ist das am besten zugängliche. Die Rolle des Dimethylchloroniumkations in der klassischen Friedel-Crafts-Methylierung wird mittels quantenmechanischer Berechnungen untersucht. In Analogie zur Friedel-Crafts-Me-thylierung werden elektronenarme fluorierte aromatische Moleküle wie 1,2,3,4-Tetrafluorben-zol methyliert.
