dc.description.abstract
Computer simulations allow researchers to explore processes underlying neural
functions. Biologically detailed simulations of single neurons and neural
networks are based on compartmental modelling. This article describes seven
well-known compartmental modelling packages and compares their
characteristics. The important aspects of selecting a program are discussed.
