dc.description.abstract
Beim Einlagern

dc.description.abstract
2,2´-Dipyridyl- und 2,2´-bipyridyl ligands were connected via ester and amid
linkage with two parallel oligomethylene chains in a distance of 5 A.
Bis(2,2´-bipyridyl)(2-[2,2'-dipyridylmethylene] malonate)
ruthenium(II)-dihexafluorophosphate was converted to amphiphilic hexadecyl-,
octadecyl-, eicosyl, docosyl- esters and derivatives with methacrylate- and
xanthate groups. Osmium and palladium amphiphiles have also been synthesized.
Comparative UV/VIS-spectra indicated that in the case of the
2-[2,2'-dipyridylmethylene] malonate) ruthenium(II)-dihexafluorophosphates
light induced charge transfer from ruthenium to the pyridyl ligands occurred
preferably to the malonate-type ligand. The reduction potential of the
malonate was less negative by 400 mV as compared to bipyridyl. The chloroform
solution of the dioctadecylester did not show any luminescence, whereas the
aqueous suspension produced between 30 and 150% of the emission intensity of
symmetrical monomeric solution of tris (bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) in water.
Cryo-transmission electron microscopy of the sonicated aqueous solution
revealed multilayer spheres without an entrapped water volume. The solid,
onion-type sphere is totally filled with interdigitated bilayers and has
therefore the character of a rigid, spherical micelle, not that of a vesicle.
The head group layer consists of a back-to-back ruthenium complex bilayer,
their alkyl chains point inwards as well as outwards. The spherical micelles
were also isolated from water in solid form and were stable on mica and gold
surfaces for many hours as shown by atomic force microscopy. Incorporation
into fluid host vesicles or micelles lead to complete loss of luminescence of
the ruthenium amphiphiles. Various redox active water- or membrane-soluble
agents also quenched 30-50% of the emission. This is taken as indication for
an energy transfer between several layers. ?-A-isotherms for monolayers were
measured on Langmuir trough. The dioctadecylmalonate amphiphile gave a
molecular area of 85 A2. Electron- and scanning microscopies indicated that
bis(2,2'-bipyridyl) (dihexadecyl-2-[2,2'-dipyridylmethylene] malonate)
ruthenium(II) dihexafluorophosphate formed multilayered micelles upon
sonication in water. The micelles collapsed on graphite, gold, mica and
silicon surfaces and rearranged to bilayers. These bilayers appeared in
different arrangements on different surfaces under the atomic force microscope
(AFM).
In aqueous suspensions of palladium amphiphiles multilayered micelles were
also detected. Their Pd(II)-ions were partially reduced to Pd(0) and showed
strong catalytic activity in Castro-Stephens-coupling of 4-iodobenzoic acid
and 1-propinol in water as was shown by HPLC.
