dc.description.abstract
Handauswertung ersetzen. Ein Ausdruck der Originalkurven wird zur Kontrolle
allerdings weiterhin empfohlen, da besonders Artefakte oder unregelmäßige
Nystagmusreaktionen die Auswertung in Einzelfällen erschweren können.

dc.description.abstract
30 healthy subjects were analysed in this study, whereby all of the them had a
sound nystagmic reaction in caloric and optokinetic testing. Both manual and
computerbased data analysis were applied after the nystagmic reaction was
recorded using videooculographic technology. The use of a computer programm to
automate nystagmographic analysis requires that the computer programm can
analyse and compute each nystagmic parameter with the precision that is only
characteristic of manual nystagmographic analysis. To investigate the
applicability and reliability of computer based nystagmographic analysis in a
clinical routine, the mean SPV of both manual and computerbased
nystagmographic analysis were compared by analysed statistically the
correlation between the two groups. In addition, it was to be found out which
of the two analytic options (discrete / continuous) in the automatic analysis
programme was more exact. The results show that both the discrete and the
continuous analysis correlate on a high level. The discreet analysis
correlates on a higher level to the manual analysis. Therefore it can be said
that the discrete computer based nystagmoraphic analysis should be applied
when using the VOG 2 programme (SMI Sensomotoric Instruments GmbH). As the
results show computer based automated nystagmographic analysis can replace
manual nystagmographic analysis in clinical practice. It is still recommended
to check the printout of the nystagmus curves in case artefacts and irregular
nystagmic reactions influence the automated analysis in a negative way.
