This dissertation is dedicated to the ‚Viennese discourse of catharsis‘; it introduces its central protagonists as well as their works. Particular attention is being paid to the position of Hermann Bahr within this debate. A close examination of three partly unpublished works of the author, namely „Katharsis“ (1902), >Dialog vom Tragischen< (1904), and „Dialog vom Laster“ (1905-1907, respectively 1904-1913) aims to extrapolate the various works that influenced his opinion; it looks at authors he consciously references and those he distances himself from; it traces the way he utilizes the ideas of others in order to advance his own position and looks at the way he connects these ideas, develops them, and re-introduces them into the theoretical discourse of his time. The corpus of theoretical works, which consists mainly of literary works of the so-called ‚Wiener Moderne‘ as well as scientific publications that constituted and/or influenced the ‚Viennese discourse of catharsis‘ is analysed within the specific cultural context that produced it in the first place.","339 Seiten","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/6392||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/refubium-10591","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudissthesis000000105552-9","ger","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","catharsis||ecstasy||vienna around 1900||young vienna||reception of antiquity||Bahr||Nietzsche||Freud||Hofmannsthal","800 Literatur::800 Literatur, Rhetorik, Literaturwissenschaft","Rausch und Reinigung","Hermann Bahrs Beitrag zum ""Wiener Katharsis-Diskurs""","Ecstasy and Catharsis","Hermann Bahr´s contribution to the ""Viennese discourse of catharsis""","Dissertation","free","open access","Text","Philosophie und Geisteswissenschaften","FUDISS_derivate_000000022341","FUDISS_thesis_000000105552"
