This thesis refers to the architecture of the New Kingdom tombs in Amarna, Thebes and Memphis in terms of the influence between the architecture of houses, tombs and temples. Is it possible to transfer Diodor´s statement about the Egyptian tombs as houses for the eternity from Roman times into the New Kingdom? Do the New Kingdom tombs show the same characteristics as the architectural remains of the New Kingdom houses? With a comprehensive analysis of the architecture of tombs, houses and temples I will attempt to answer this question. Layout, elements of construction and decoration are included in the investigation. After an introduction to the aim and methods of the thesis, the second chapter describes the remaining architecture at Amarna. Based on this description the third chapter details the comparison of layout, specific building elements such as columns and decoration between tombs, private houses and temples. Furthermore, the situation at Thebes and Memphis is discussed. The systematic comparison has shown that the architecture of the tombs do not copy the private houses. For instance; the position of entrances differs. In contrast to the tomb which was entered in the centre, the house had a side entrance. Further distinctions can be found in the form and proportion of the columns. While the tombs contain massive unopened papyrus columns the houses had palmiform columns or slim supports with capitals like opened flowers. Not in the least, the uniform decoration of the houses is to be distinguished from the abundant figured style of the tombs. The tombs offer similarities with the temples as can be demonstrated not only in the offering scenes explaining the correspondent function of tomb and temple.","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/6385||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/refubium-10584","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudissthesis000000003226-1","ger","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","tombs architecture Amarna Thebes Memphis","000 Informatik, Informationswissenschaft, allgemeine Werke::000 Informatik, Wissen, Systeme::000 Informatik, Informationswissenschaft, allgemeine Werke","Untersuchungen zum Einfluss der Wohnhaus- und Tempelarchitektur auf die Beamtengräber des Neuen Reiches in Amarna, Theben und Memphis","The Private New Kingdom Tombs of Amarna, Thebes and Memphis: their relations to the architecture of private houses and temples","Dissertation","free","open access","Text","Geschichts- und Kulturwissenschaften","FUDISS_derivate_000000003226","FUDISS_thesis_000000003226","http://www.diss.fu-berlin.de/2007/745/"
