This habilitation treatise discusses the clinical value of electron beam and multislice computed tomography (EBCT and MSCT, respectively) for morphologic and functional imaging of the heart on the basis of own publications. MSCT displays significant advantages over EBCT concerning image quality in CT coronary angiography. The frequency of artefacts in MSCT is low due to multisegment reconstruction and variable gantry rotation time. The morphologic assessibility of venous coronary artery bypasses enables an age assessment of bypass occlusions using computed tomography. A good to excellent correlation exists between EBCT und MRI for the functional evaluation of the left and right ventricle as well as for the comparison of EBCT and MSCT for left ventricular volumetry. Electron beam CT enables detection and quantification of mitral valve insufficiency by means of volumetry and indicator dilution method. In the field of surgery for endstage heart failure computed tomography is a valuable tool for the precise morphologic and functional evaluation of the ventricles before and after partial left ventriculectomy and passive cardiomyoplasty without the limitations for MRI associated with metal implants frequently seen in this subgroup of patients.","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/5585||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/refubium-9784","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudissthesis000000003179-8","ger","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","Computed tomography||electron beam CT||multislice CT||heart||morphology||function||heart surgery","600 Technik, Medizin, angewandte Wissenschaften::610 Medizin und Gesundheit::610 Medizin und Gesundheit","Morphologische und funktionelle Herzbildgebung mit der Computertomographie: Klinischer Stellenwert von Elektronenstrahl- und Mehrzeilen-Technologie","Morphologic and Functional Cardiac Imaging with Computed Tomography: Clinical Value of Electron Beam and Multislice Technology","Habilitation","free","open access","Text","Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin","FUDISS_derivate_000000003179","FUDISS_thesis_000000003179","http://www.diss.fu-berlin.de/2007/666/"
