Troeltsch, Volto- lini u. a.). The Archive of Pathological Anatomy and Physiology and of Clinical Medicine (from 1903 Virchows Archive) was founded by Rudolf Virchow and Benno Rein- hardt in 1847. It is among the longest running and continuously published academ- ic archives worldwide. During the last third of the 19th century, the scientific discipline of Otorhinolaryn- gologie emerged from the disciplines of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology. Within this dissertation, the contribution of the Virchows Archive to the emergence and establishment of the Otorhinolaryngology will be examined. For the first time in 1853, a work was published in Virchows Archive that was clearly attributable to the new discipline of Otorhinolaryngology. In the years from 1847 to 1862, 46 contributions were published, in the following decades 56 (1863- 1872), 57 (1873-1882), 77 (1883-1892) and 31 (1892-1902), respectively. Up until 1862, the Virchows Archive was the only scientific magazine with national and in- ternational reputation that published contributions to the field of Otorhinolaryngolo- gy. With the emergence of specific scientific magazines for the ENT sub- disciplines, this status quo changed significantly. After the formation of the sub- disciplines, the Archive of Otology published more contributions than Virchows Archive ever did (244 in 1863-1872, and 2220 in 1893-1902). In the monthly statis- tical bulletin for Otology 312 (1863-1872), respectively 4224 (1893-1902) contribu- tions were published. Even after the formation of the ENT and the establishment of its very own publica- tion organs, ENT contributions were published in the Virchows Archive. Important representatives and researchers in the field of Otorhinolaryngology (Fränkel, Gruber, Lucae, Moos, v. Troeltsch, Voltolini, among others) published throughout all times in Virchows Archive. Especially in the first years of its existence, without neglecting the years until the death of Virchow in 1902, the Virchows Archive offered the evolving discipline of Otorhinolaryngology and its representatives – given the lack of a very own ENT publication organ at that very time – a publicatory “asylum” (Virchow) and thereby significantly supported the emergence and establishment of this medical discipline.","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/521||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/refubium-4723","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudissthesis000000100510-2","ger","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","Virchow||ENT||medical specialization in the 19th. century","600 Technik, Medizin, angewandte Wissenschaften::610 Medizin und Gesundheit","Die Bedeutung des Archivs für pathologische Anatomie und Physiologie und klinische Medizin (Virchows Archiv) bei der Entwicklung und Etablierung des Fachgebietes der Hals-, Nasen- und Ohrenheilkunde im Zeitraum von 1847-1902 in Deutschland","The importance of the archive for pathological anatomy and physiology and clinical medicine (Virchow's Archives) in the development and establishment of the medical specialty of Ear, Nose and Throat specialists in the period of 1847-1902 in Germany","Dissertation","free","open access","Text","Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin","FUDISS_derivate_000000018019","FUDISS_thesis_000000100510"
