This paper presents the development and application of practical methods for a lithofacies-based reservoir characterization of the upper Jurassic [Malm] in the Molasse Basin using data from geothermal wells in the Greater Munich area. The paper furthermore identifies correlations applicable to the Greater Munich area between the lithofacial structure and the formation permeability and proposes a corresponding exploration strategy for geothermal deep wells that is aimed at optimizing the well path. A method for estimating the permeability from cuttings, the so-called PAC (Permeabilität aus Cuttings) analysis, was developed with regard to identifying potential inflow horizons. Further assessments of the porosity and permeability characteristics were made on the basis of thin cutting sections, which additionally also contributed to the review of the depositional environment and the lithostratigraphic correlation of the wells through microfacies analyses. The available electrical image logs proved to be of crucial importance for the facies classification of the wells. A lateral facies differentiation can be made on the basis of texture analysis and sedimentary interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data. On the basis of the results from the lithofacies differentiation, the following simplified hydrostratigraphic classification of the Malm in the Greater Munich area can be derived: the Lowermost Malm Alpha to Malm Gamma with marly limestone portions may be characterized as an aquitard. The lower and middle Malm, which stratigraphically corresponds approximately to the Malm Delta and Epsilon, can be considered a potential regional aquifer due to a homogeneous, laterally dominant massive dolomitic facies. The upper Malm Zeta is characterized by laterally alternating swells and basins, resulting in the local formation of aquifers (dolomitized massive facies) or aquitards (limestone or marly limestone bedded facies). The dolomitized massive facies accordingly occupies a key role in the geothermal exploration and exploitation of the Malm, since it forms a field-spanning common reservoir in the deeper and middle Malm and also increases the thickness of the reservoir in the upper Malm. In addition, it affects the susceptibility to karstification and is thus a decisive factor for the overall hydraulic conductivity of the Malm and productivity of the wells. According to a facies-oriented exploration strategy based on these findings, a well should be drilled to the top of a swell or of a bioherm complex and the Malm should then be developed along the longest possible length in massive facies. In addition, faults or tectonically stressed areas should be “threaded” due to the increased karstification potential. Basin structures in the upper Malm considered as ""negative areas"" should be absolutely avoided in planning the drilling path.","XII, 154 S.","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/2050||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/refubium-6252","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudissthesis000000040075-4","ger","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","Malm||Lithofacies||Reservoir Characterization||Geothermal Production||Hydrostratigraphy||Exploration Strategy||Dolomite","500 Naturwissenschaften und Mathematik::550 Geowissenschaften, Geologie","Die Lithofazies des Oberjura (Malm) im Großraum München und deren Einfluss auf die tiefengeothermische Nutzung","The Lithofacies of the upper Jurassic (Malm) in the greater area of Munich and the impact on deep geothermal use","Dissertation","free","open access","Text","Geowissenschaften","FUDISS_derivate_000000012545","FUDISS_thesis_000000040075","Aus Copyrightgründen sind die Zeitschriftenartikel hier nicht online veröffentlicht; die Nummerierung der Abbildungen weicht aus diesem Grund von der Druckversion ab."
