We make use of data from the German Socio- Economic Panel (SOEP) and apply a dynamic random-effects probit model. Our results suggest that low-wage jobs can act as stepping stones to better-paid work. The improvement of the chance to obtain a high-wage job by accepting low-paid work is particularly large for less-skilled persons and for individuals with longer unemployment experiences. Low-paid work is less beneficial if the job is also associated with a low social status.","27 S.","978-3-941240-40-7","https://refubium.fu-berlin.de/handle/fub188/20197||http://dx.doi.org/10.17169/FUDOCS_document_000000008210","eng","urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudocsseries000000000314-2||urn:nbn:de:kobv:188-fudocsseries000000000006-7","http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/refubium/rechtliches/Nutzungsbedingungen","low pay dynamics||unemployment dynamics||dynamic random effects models||state dependence","300 Sozialwissenschaften::330 Wirtschaft::331 Arbeitsökonomie","Low-wage jobs","stepping stone or poverty trap?","Buch","open access","Volkswirtschaftslehre:::46a887cb-f472-42ae-a213-041a9fcecf17:::0","Wirtschaftswissenschaft","FUDOCS_derivate_000000001531","FUDOCS_document_000000008210","2010,28 : Economics","Diskussionsbeiträge des Fachbereichs Wirtschaftswissenschaft der Freien Universität Berlin"
