Data repository for "Experimental tests of SERS: Moving beyond the electromagnetic enhancement theory" by S. Heeg, N. S. Mueller, S. Wasserroth, P. Kusch, and S. Reich, Journal of Raman Spectroscopy The data repository contains digitized data from earlier studies and simulations of plasmonic properties. Figure panels that were reproduced from the literature (without digitizing data for reanalysis) are not contained in the repository. List of data files in the repository and their content: Figure 1: zhu_crozier_experiment.dat (Figure 1d, red dots): SERS enhancement EF_exp digitized from Zhu & Crozier, Nat. Comm. 5, 5228/1-8 (2014) zhu_crozier_simulations.dat (Figure 1d, grey dots): SERS enhancement EF_em digitized from Zhu & Crozier, Nat. Comm. 5, 5228/1-8 (2014) Figure 2: hotspot_properties_gap_size.dat: Simulations of the SERS hotspot in a gold nanodimer (Figure 2b): Relative surface area (in % of the total dimer area) and number of molecules in the SERS hotspot. The simulation parameters are described in the Appendix. hotspot_nsquare_scaling_experiment.dat (Figure 2c, grey dots): SERS enhancement factor EF_N2 as a function of gap size. The calculation assumes N^2 scaling of the SERS intensity in the hotspot. It used the digitized experimental data in Fig.2d and the number of molecules in the hotspot in Fig.3b as input data. hotspot_nsquare_scaling_simulations.dat (Figure 2c, red dots): SERS enhancement factor EF_hs,em as a function of gap size. The calculation used the digitized simulated data in Fig.2d and the surface area in Fig.3b as input data. Figure 3: digitized_resonances_simulations.dat (Figure 3a, all data points): Simulated enhancement as a function of photon energy for dimers with 1nm gap (D1nmX and D1nmY, black in panel a), 2nm gap (D2nm, grey), and 30nm gap (D30nm, light grey) and for an L shaped trimer (L, purple). digitized_resonances_simulations_fit.dat (Figure 3a, all lines): Fits to the simulated enhancement with a single Lorentzian. Dimer with 1nm gap (D1nmY), 2nm (D2nmY), 30nm (D30nmY), and an L shaped trimer (LY). The first column is the X axis for all data sets. digitized_resonances_experiments.dat (Figure 3b, all data points): Experimental SERS enhancement as a function of photon energy for BT (BTDII and BTDIII with x and y columns, red points), TPT (mode 1256cm-1 and 1585cm-1, blue), 6T (green), and R6G (black). digitized_resonances_experiments_fit.dat (Figure 3b, all lines): Fits to the data points in panel b. The column names and color coding match the data points, see digitized_resonances_experiments.dat. There is a common x axis for all fits.
